General Questions

 

A Pay now reservation, is a discounted reservation that is paid in advance and is non-refundable. Advance payment in full is required and your credit card is charged immediately. Please contact the office directly with any additional questions.


Age Requirements

  • Standard Cars: all drivers must be at least 21. For renters between the ages of 21 and 24, a daily underage fee will apply.
  • Some luxury vehicles and large SUVs: all drivers must be at least 25

Please call the location from which you wish to rent for details on age restrictions for specific vehicles.

Cancellation Policy

  • Standard cars (Full Size cars and smaller): you may cancel the same day with no penalty.
  • SUVS and VANS: 24-hour cancellation is required by email or phone to avoid penalty fees.
  • LUXURY and SPECIALTY reservations: 48-hour advance cancellation is required.

Debit Card Policy

  • Debit Cards are not accepted for local renters (zip codes 90000-93599), based on Driver License or Debit Card billing address.
  • Driver License and Debit Card name must match.
  • All Debit Card users will need to show return flight itinerary coinciding with rental term matching name on Driver License, Debit Card and 3rd form of ID.
  • 3rd form of ID: Passport, Military ID, 2nd Debit or Credit Card, Costco/Sam’s Club, Work Photo ID Badge.
  • No additional Drivers on Debit Card rentals.
  • Minimum $300 deposit above expected rental charge; deposits will increase in relation to vehicle being rented.
  • Be advised that when using a debit card authorizations or refunds may take up to 14 days to be posted to your account.
  • Midway Car Rental is not responsible for overdraft charges.

Delayed Arrival

If you will be delayed for any reason, please call the office. Certain cars are subject to cancellation fees if not canceled 48 hours in advance.

Pre-paid rentals

Pay now pre-paid reservations are discounted reservations that are paid in advance and are non-refundable. The credit card that is used to pre-pay the reservation must be presented at the counter and the card name must match the driver`s license. Advance payment in full is required, and your card will be charged immediately. Pay now pre-paid reservations are non-refundable and cannot be modified or canceled. If you cancel, or do not show, you will not be refunded. Midway is not responsible for overdrafts to your account. We do not accept pre-paid credit cards or pre-paid debit cards. Once the car is rented, you will not receive a credit or refund for unused rental days. If your rental is extended, the additional days are subject to higher rates. When you get to the counter, we will take an additional deposit starting at a minimum of $300.00 on your card. To find out the exact amount of the deposit that will be taken at the counter, please call our reservation center directly.

Extending Your Rental

To extend your rental beyond the due date shown on your contract, please call your local rental office. Please note that the rate is subject to change.

Hand Controls

Midway Car Rental can provide vehicles with hand controls with 24- 48 hours advance notice.

No Show Policy

Reservations are valid and honored for up to three hours after the requested pick up time or until the location’s regular closing time, whichever is earlier. If the vehicle is not picked up within three hours of the requested pick up time your reservation status will be changed to a NO SHOW. To avoid any problems, please contact Midway Car Rental if you need to change your vehicle pick-up time.

One-Way Rentals

Please call us directly for one-way rental availability, pricing, locations, and details.

Unlimited Mileage

Unlimited mileage applies only to miles driven in the states of AZ, CA, NV and UT.

Visiting Mexico

Midway Car Rental vehicles are not permitted to enter Mexico under any circumstances.


Renting with Midway Car Rental is easy! You must present a valid driver’s license and credit card, in your name, when you pick up your vehicle.

You will also need to present a secondary ID with your signature.

Any second means of I.D. with a signature is acceptable, such as a department store card, library card, etc.
It should not be the same as your credit identification.
For example, if you are using American Express to pay for the rental, that card cannot be used as your secondary ID.
Los Angeles County residents picking up a car at the LAX location are also required to present a utility bill showing their current home address and name.


Safety first!  California statutes limit 15-passenger vans to personal use only unless the renter and operator of the vehicle holds a valid Class B Driver’s License, or the equivalent commercial operator’s license from the state or country in which they reside.

All 15-passenger van renters will receive a copy of the United States Department of Transportation National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s consumer advisory for 15-passenger vans, “Reducing the Risk of Rollover Crashes.” The renter will be asked to sign acknowledging receipt of that advisory.

Midway Car Rental also maintains a fleet of 7 and 8-passenger minivans and SUVs that do not require any special driver’s license.

For standard vehicles, the minimum age to rent from Midway Car Rental is 21. Standard vehicles are non-luxury cars ranging from our full-size cars and down.

For luxury vehicles, 7-passengers SUV’s, 15-passenger vans, cube/box trucks and/or specialty vehicles, renters must be 25 or older. Check with the specific rental location or the nearest Midway Car Rental office for details.

Additional charges apply to all renters under 25 and vary by location.

Charge away! Midway Car Rental accepts all the major charge cards listed below provided the card is in the renter’s name. Debit, Check or Cash cards are not accepted as credit identification at the time rental, but can be used at the conclusion of the rental for payment. Pre-paid cards are not accepted.

Apologies, but Midway Car Rental cannot accept a faxed license.


Yes – but an International Driving Permit (IDP) on its own is not sufficient.

Your home country’s valid driver’s license is always necessary for rental with Midway Car Rental. An International Driving Permit (IDP) is a translation of your home country’s (other than English language) driver’s license. At the time of rental you must present your home country’s valid driver’s license and, if you have one, an IDP to assist us in translating it. The IDP, by itself, is insufficient for rental with Midway Car Rental.

Midway Car Rental will only rent to a non-licensed renter is if the individual is unable to drive due to a disability. Otherwise, you must present a valid license in your name in order to rent from Midway Car Rental.

We understand you may sometimes need to return your car to a location other than the one you rented from. Midway Car Rental delivers! One-way rentals are available, subject to availability, provided the return location is an Midway Car Rental location; a one-way service fee applies. Please note that cars with unlimited mileage are approved for unlimited mileage in the states of AZ, CA, NV and UT only.


If you find you will need your vehicle for longer than planned when you first rented, simply return to the renting office and sign a new rental contract. Please note that your original rate is only guaranteed for your original dates; the rate for additional days may differ from the original rate. Rates for early returns are not pro rata.

Domestic reservations will be honored for up to three hours after the scheduled pick-up time or until the location’s regular closing time, whichever is earlier (for international reservations, 4 hours or closing – whichever is earlier). If the vehicle is not picked up within this time you will be considered a “no show” and your reservation will be void. To avoid any problems, please be sure contact Midway Car Rental if you need to change your vehicle pick-up time.

Public Liability and Property Damage:
In California, liability coverage is available to the renter/driver either through the purchase of Renter’s Liability Protection (RLP) from Midway Car Rental or through the renter’s private insurance. Proof of liability coverage is required by state law for all vehicle operators on public roads. Proof of coverage can be your insurance card or the declarations page from your personal car insurance policy.


Unfortunately, accidents do happen.

In California, the renter is liable for all damage to the Midway Car Rental rental vehicle regardless of fault. The renter is also liable for loss of use of the vehicle (revenue lost while the car is being repaired).

Renters may purchase a Collision Damage Waiver (CDW), which relieves them of all financial responsibility for loss or damage to the Midway Car Rental rental vehicle as long as they comply with the terms of the rental agreement. In California, CDW does not relieve the renter for theft resulting from failure to use ordinary care. The cost of CDW will vary by car, group and rate; feel free to confirm the applicable charge with your booking agent.

Though you may have private insurance or rental car coverage through your charge card, CDW offers those may contain a deductible; be sure to check with your insurance provider. California law requires vehicle operators to carry written proof of insurance at all times.

In short, CDW:

Eliminates your responsibility for damage to the rental vehicle (with zero deductible/excess) which may occur as a result of a vehicle accident, unless damages are a result of prohibited use.
Eliminates the hassle and cost associated with filling a claim and paying a deductible to your own insurance company for collision coverage.
Without This Protection: You are liable for ALL damages to the rental vehicle while it is rented to you.
Limitations: This waiver is void if you violate the terms and conditions of the rental agreement as detailed in the car rental jacket. This waiver does not apply to vandalism or comprehensive claims.


If you’re like us, you’d rather be safe than sorry. Renters may purchase Renter’s Liability Protection (RLP) at the time of rental. Liability coverage is required in the state of CA; you may either provide written proof of coverage or purchase Midway Car Rental’s coverage.

Liability coverage does not cover your rental car; it covers any damage that your vehicle causes to any 3rd party property.

RLP can be purchased in combination with Supplemental Liability Insurance (below) for even greater liability coverage.

RLP:

Provides third party liability protection for bodily injury ($15,000 per person, $30,000 per accident) and property damage ($5,000) to third parties, as mandated and at the limits required by California law.
Provides you with limited protection if you should accidentally injure any other person or driver, or damage anyone else’s vehicle or property while you are driving the rental vehicle.
Without This Coverage: You are liable for all injuries and property damage that occurs as a result of an automobile accident while the Renter is operating the rental vehicle.
Limitations: Please refer to the car rental jacket included with your rental agreement.


Peace of mind is priceless. To help, Supplemental Liability Insurance (SLI) may be purchased at the time of rental and provides supplemental liability coverage of $1 million vs. the California state minimum of $35,000.

Provides third party liability protection for bodily injury and property damage in excess of any existing insurance; increases from the state’s statutory minimum ($35,000) up to $1 Million Dollars.
Provides you with limited protection if you should accidently injure any other person or driver, or damage to anyone else’s vehicle or property while you are driving the rental vehicle.
Without this Coverage: You are liable for all injuries and property damage that occurs as a result of an automobile accident while you are operating the rental vehicle.
Limitations: Please refer to the car rental jacket included with your rental agreement.


Personal Accident Coverage provides medical expense benefits to the renter and all passengers in the Midway Car Rental rental vehicle.

The renter is covered 24 hours a day during the rental for the following: $1,500 medical coverage for injuries due to an accident, $250 for ambulance expenses.

Provides Renter and passengers with coverage for medical expenses or loss of life while in rental vehicle.
Without This Coverage: Renter and passengers will have no additional coverage for medical expenses or loss of life.
Limitations: Please refer to the car rental jacket included with your rental agreement.


Your personal automobile insurance carrier or insurance provided by your credit card company may provide some of the optional coverages listed above; please check with your insurance carrier and/or your credit card company before you purchase to avoid duplicative coverage. Please be advised that your optional coverage may be void if the damage or loss results from an authorized driver’s (A) intentional, willful, wanton, or reckless conduct, (B) operation of the vehicle under the influence of drugs or alcohol, (C) towing or pushing anything, (D) operation of the vehicle on an unpaved road if the damage or loss is a direct result of the road or driving conditions, (E) use for commercial hire, (F) use in connection with conduct that could be properly charged as a felony, (G) involvement in a speed test or contest or in driver training activity, (H) operated by a person other than an authorized driver, (I) operation outside of the United States, (J) providing of fraudulent information to the rental company, (K) carrying of hazardous material, or (L) providing of false information such that the rental company would not have rented the vehicle if it had instead received true information.

Rates are in U.S. dollars ($ USD). The rate of exchange at the end of the rental applies.

Taxes are additional; surcharges may apply. Please check at the time of rate quote or reservation for any applicable taxes or surcharges.

Midway Car Rental also offers special negotiated rates for corporations, associations, government entities, meetings & events, meeting planners, group travel conventions, weddings, production companies, production studios, and more. Just call and we’ll be happy to craft a custom quote!


Additional drivers must be at least 21 years of age at the time of the rental; present a valid driver’s license; present an Midway Car Rental-honored charge card in their name (see “Charge Cards”); and complete a simple additional driver form. An authorized driver for a disabled renter is exempt from the additional driver credit requirement.

For select vehicles, a 25-year age minimum may be in effect. An under-age fee applies to drivers 21-24 years old; drivers under age 21 are not permitted.


Child Safety Seats are available with a minimum of 24-hour advance booking. The cost of the Child Safety Seat is $10 per day. Availability is limited at times, so please reserve child seats in advance.

Ski racks and snow chains are not available.


Our rates are on a 24 hour basis, and you are given a 59 minute grace period beyond your scheduled return time before additional charges are added.


Contract violations include, but are not limited to: (1) Driving the vehicle outside of Arizona, California Nevada or Utah; (2) Driving while intoxicated; (3) Towing of any sort; (4) Failure to return the vehicle by the due date; (5) Operation of the vehicle by someone who is not listed as an authorized driver on the contract; (6) Failure to pay all charges listed on the contract at time of return.


If arranged in advance, you may pick up your vehicle at one Midway Car Rental location and return to another Midway Car Rental location for a modest fee. One-way drop fees begin at $35. If you book online, the drop fee will calculate automatically; otherwise your reservation specialist will be happy to assist you.


Although most of our vehicles are not equipped with a GPS navigation system, we are pleased to offer portable GPS systems for rent. Please consult your agent when you pick up your car. Subject to availability.


Midway Car Rental vehicles are permitted to enter Arizona, California, Nevada and Utah only. If your rental agreement states ‘unlimited’ mileage, it is unlimited mileage in these states. Vehicles are not permitted to enter Mexico at any time.
