On November 20, 2018, our Midway employees, Beth and Tony, went to the New Challenge Ministers, Inc. Fresh Rescue Food Bank to help hand out foods and items to the underprivileged and military families. In addition, our employees put together 100 packets of hygiene products to be given out to homeless camps around the city.
Over 350 families (including 100 military families) received turkeys, stuffing, potatoes and rolls, along with other food items. Being able to see all the families smiling faces was such a wonderful reminder of what Thanksgiving is all about and we were very blessed and honored to be part of this incredible experience. This exemplify the true meaning of Thanksgiving!
On September 29, our Midway team and their families, all joined together and took part in the AHA Heart Walk at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. The Heart Walk is the American Heart Association’s Premier event for raising funds to save lives of those who suffer from heart disease and stroke. This event raised millions of dollars for the AHA.
During the walk, national company teams commit to participating in the Heart Walk and set a company-wide fundraising goal. Mary Nguyen from Hankey-Midway Auto Group raised over $1,000 in support of the American Heart Association. As a proud donor, we were honored to be part of such a great cause and had a great time at the event.
On June 9, a group of Midway volunteers went to the Special Olympics Summer Games at Cal State University Long Beach to cheer on and support the hundreds of athletes that were competing in the games. It was such an amazing experience, words cannot express how wonderful it was for our team to be part of this incredible event.
The Special Olympics celebrated more than 1,100 athletes from across Southern California who competed for gold, silver, and bronze medals and ribbons in four summer sports – athletics, basketball, bocce, and swimming.
On May 13, we visited the Children’s Hunger Fund warehouse to help sort out canned foods that are going to be part of food care packages, given out to millions of children and their families throughout the US and the world. The experience was beyond rewarding and uplifting, knowing that our help will feed all these children that would otherwise have nothing to eat.
Children’s Hunger Fund is currently running their Summer of Hope program, which will feed millions of children in the US during the summer months when they are out of school and not receiving a subsidized meal, which for many of them is the only nutritious meal they have for the entire day. Project Coin Pak is a way for Midway employees to help by donating their coins for the Summer of Hope program. There will be a Children’s Hunger Fund coin box placed at every Midway location and department which will be picked up by the end of the month to be given to the charity. Every 25 cents you give can provide one meal for a hungry child. We hope you’ll support us in our mission to give back and do good. Click Children’s Hunger Fund to learn more.
