Stars, Stripes, and Cars

Fourth of July has to be one of the most anticipated holidays in Los Angeles. Not only is Independence Day the first warm holiday of the year, but it’s also a bona-fide beach day full of barbecues, firework shows, and charming displays of patriotism.

Midway Car Rental particularly enjoys this holiday because we get to display our patriotism by doing what we do best! Sharing our love of fine automobiles. Here are some fun facts about a few of our favorite American made machines. What iconic model makes you feel patriotic?

Ford Mustang

This iconic American pony car was named after the wild horses that were known to roam the Western United States, right? Wrong! Designer John Najjar suggested the name as a tribute to the World War II P-51 Mustang fighter plane. The first prototype, known as the Ford Mustang I, was designed in 1961. But it was the infamous 1965, or 1964 ½ Mustang that had the most successful launch. Since then this trademark model has developed a variety of Mustang types for all our pony car needs.

Jeep Wrangler

The Wrangler is said to be a progression from the 1941 World War II Jeep. When the war ended in 1945 those Jeeps were transitioned into Civilian Jeeps also known as the CJ model. The first Wrangler strongly resembled the CJ model and debuted in 1986 as a new model after the discontinuance of the famous Jeep CJ series. Four generations later this historic SUV only gets better and continues to be one of America’s favorite mid-size, four-wheel drive SUVs.

Dodge Challenger

Did you know that the first car to ever carry the Challenger name only came in silver paint? Produced by the American automobile manufacturer, Dodge, the 1959 limited-edition Dodge Silver Challenger was marketed as a value muscle car to buyers that wanted more bang for their buck. Today the Challenger maintains that same business model. It’s not the most graceful car, but it makes up for it with muscle. Only three generations later this classic powerhouse still gives the sixth generation Chevy Camaro and Ford Mustang a run for their money.
